CTBUH Receives Record-Setting Number of Awards Program Submissions

346 submissions in 2023 tops previous high by nearly 35%

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) received a record-setting number of submissions for its annual Awards Program this year: 346 new projects across more than 20 categories and subcategories, including Best Tall Building; Innovation; Urban Habitat; Repositioning; and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, a new category in 2023.

“Undoubtedly, there is lot of excitement and anticipation for the 2023 Awards Program—this year’s response represents a nearly 35% increase over the 258 submissions we received in 2019, another banner year when we registered the next-highest number of projects,” said CTBUH CEO Javier Quintana de Una. “Qualitatively, too, the caliber of the proposals is exceedingly high. We’re looking forward to a very ambitious and engaging selection process in the coming weeks.”

Breakdown of the 2023 Submissions

In addition to recording the highest number of overall submissions, CTBUH received the most submissions ever from several key areas, including Europe (26), Oceania (22), South America (5), and Africa (3)—plus a record-tying 65 submissions from Asia.

“The obvious appeal of this year’s program is driven by its strategic streamlining, resulting both from member input and adaptations enacted to respond to the tall building industry,” added Quintana de Una. “For example, the reimagined Systems category combines MEP and façade engineering and was broadened to include other disciplines, such as vertical engineering.”  

Best Tall Building Award Submissions by Region

The awards are an integral part of the overall international conference program. Juries began deliberation on project submissions last week and Award of Excellence winners will be informed on 28 April. Winners in all categories will present their projects at the CTBUH 2023 International Conference, Humanizing High Density—People, Nature & the Urban Realm, where the overall winner in each category will be announced. Submissions are also considered for inclusion in our Tall+Urban publication, an annual compendium highlighting the year’s most innovative and pioneering projects.
